Buy this book on-line FILMORE, Millard : AUTOGRAPH NOTE, SIGNED
FILMORE, Millard. AUTOGRAPH NOTE, SIGNED. A single sheet of lined paper, 7 3/4 by 5 inches (19.8x12.6 cm), with a small armorial device blindstamped at the top left corner. The note is dated 'Buffalo, April 24, 1865' at the top and begins 'Dear Sir.' Regrettably, the recipient's name has been cut out of the sheet, below the date and above the salutation, so his name is unknown. The eight-line note is a reply to the addressee's request for a copy of a letter he had sent Filmore a few years earlier which, as it turns out, Filmore had either 'lost or mislaid.' It is signed 'Respectfully yours, Millard Filmore.' Filmore's hand is clear and easily read. The paper has been neatly creased twice for mailing; otherwise, except for the excision mentioned above, it is quite clean and crisp. Filmore (1800-1874) was the thirteenth president of the United States of America. He succeeded from the vice presidency at the death of Zachary Taylor, serving from 1850 until 1853.
