Brilliantly characterised are the well-intentioned 'Fabian' English administrators,the white men determined to keep the African in his place,the Africans prepared to collaborate with the British in the fundamental work of health and education,and Africans who repudiate the white man and his ways with such intensity that they are ready to turn to sinister organisations and beliefs such as those of the Mau Mau.
