Feliks Topolski (b.1907).Born Warsaw,Poland,son of an actor.Studied at Warsaw Academy of Fine Art,and in Paris and Italy.Settled in London (1935).Official war artist to the Polish Forces (1940-45); a British subject since 1947.Since then he has received many public and large-scale commissions for easel paintings and murals, including 20 pictures of English writers for the University of Texas (1961-62).and of the Coronation for Buckingham Palace.His graphic work in pen and ink or pencil,sometimes with added colour or halftone washes,is linear and expressionist and has close affinities with his painting.He has contributed to many BBC television programmes and has designed theatrical costumes and sets.
