The Wrens : Original Photograph Album Kept by the Wren Family, c. 1920s-1930s, Oakland, California and England

Black cloth-covered wrappers with string binding. Covers are thin and semi-flexible. Photos are inserted into tipped-in paper corners. Some photos may have been removed; album sold as is. No date, circa 1920s-1930s (some photos have captions with dates but there are few). Album: 11 1/2" x 7 1/4." Photo size varies between about 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" and 8 1/4" x 6 1/4." Unpaginated, twenty-six pages. Ninety-nine black-and-white photographs, one of which is a photo postcard ("Kansas Dust Storm") and another being a sticker of sorts (shows a dog with possible added illustrated accents for decorative effect). Pages are clean and intact but have wrinkles and slight soiling (cloth-like texture possibly from regular handling). Covers are clean and intact overall but have some fading, slight rubbing, and light wear to extremities. Photos are very clean and intact overall except for light age toning, slight wrinkling on a few, and the small occasional mark. A Very Good copy. An original photo album filled with charming family photos relating to the Wren family of Oakland, California and England. The album was presumably kept by a member or members of the Wren family. Many of the photos show family portraits as well as those of who may be the Wren's beloved white woolly dog. This dog may have been a show dog as he or she wears a harness. There are two photographic cut-outs of this dog tipped in on one of the pages. Also included are various newspaper clippings laid in the back, some of which are about dogs. A few scrapbook-type items are tipped in such as stamps and a decorative paper medal. The following are some of the other subjects of the photos in this album: "Arthur & Vi Brighton," "Sister Violet" [wears nun's attire], three other show dogs doing tricks and performative poses, someone holding up a sheep, a woman petting a reindeer, someone canoeing, portrait of "Uncle George" and others (including a chicken in the foreground) in England, and World War II-era group portrait at an event with many children in attendance.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
