Front cover also shows a portrait photograph of General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien. 8" x 12." Pages 201-240, complete. Black and white photographs and illustrations, complete. Advertisements on back cover and inside of back cover. Text at the bottom of the back cover: "Printed and Published by The Times Publishing Company, Limited, Printing House Square, London, E.C." Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. Slight discoloration to the covers and slight edge wear. Fold line in lower-left corner of the back cover. Slight rubbing on the covers. A Near Fine copy. The Times: History of the War, was a weekly subsidiary publication of The Times newspaper, which had been founded in 1785 as the Daily Universal Register. Its name was changed to "The Times" in 1788 and still operates to this day under the same title. This issue includes Chapters XIV and XV under the titles, "The German Army--1870-1914" and "The German Army in the Field," respectively. Some of the topics of Chapter XIV: "Traditions of the Army," "Moltke," "The War of 1866 and Its Lessons," "Prussian Strategy," "General Effect of 1870 on the Army," "The Law of 1893," "Ersatz Reserve," and "Emigrant Law of 1913." Some topics of Chapter XV: "The Reserve Formation and Their Use," "The Emperor and His Moltke," "Cavalry and Reserve Division," "Infantry and Machine-Gun Tactics," "German Heavy Howitzers," and "Mechanical Efficiency." Chapters XIV and XV also feature many reprinted photographs and illustrations, some of which are full-page. Some of the depicted subjects in the photographs and illustrations include the Crown Prince of Bavaria, the Crown Prince of Germany in uniform and riding on horseback, General von Kluck, General von Heeringen, General von Falkenhayn, Officers of the Death's Head Hussars, "the Kaiser in Uhlan uniform," "the Alexander Grenadier Guard Regiment, of which the Tsar was Colonel. The Tsar and the Kaiser in the foreground," "Duke Albrecht of Wurtemberg," German siege gun, map of the territorial distribution of "German Army Corps Areas," German siege Howitzer, "new German bomb-gun," "bomb-gun ready for firing," the Prince of Lippe, and "German infantry celebrating Sedan Day in Berlin.".
