Original publisher's black and white illustrated wrappers with staple binding. Light purple accent decoration and text on front cover. Front cover also shows a portrait photograph of King Albert I of Belgium. 8" x 12." Pages 81-120, complete. Black and white photographs and illustrations, complete. Advertisements on back cover and inside of back cover. Text at the bottom of the back cover: "Printed and Published by The Times Publishing Company, Limited, Printing House Square, London, E.C." Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. Slight discoloration to the covers and slight edge wear. Back cover has a small wrinkle at the bottom edge and the top edge has a couple closed tears forming a partial chip. A Fine copy. The Times: History of the War, was a weekly subsidiary publication of The Times newspaper, which had been founded in 1785 as the Daily Universal Register. Its name was changed to "The Times" in 1788 and still operates to this day under the same title. This issue includes Chapters V and VI under the titles, "The French Army" and "The Army and the Fortresses of Belgium," respectively. Some of the topics of Chapter V: "The French Army After Waterloo," "The Loi de Deux Ans 1905," "Law of 1913," "War Organization of French Army," "Infantry," "Artillery," "Cavalry," "Decrees of 1911," "Front of German Concentration and Lines of Attack," and "Lorraine and Belgium." Some of Chapter VI's topics: "Belgian Neutrality as a Political Abstraction and Its Violation as a Military Theorem," "Neutrality Becomes a Focus of Patriotism," "The Old Army a Governmental Army," "The New Citizen Army," "The Creation of Fortresses," "The Problem of Liege and Namur," "The Army in 1863, 1899, and 1902," "The National Army Acts of 1909 and 1913," "Later Designs," and "Cupolas versus Modern Howitzers." Chapters V and VI also feature many reprinted photographs and illustrations, some of which are full-page. Some of the depicted subjects in the photographs and illustrations include General Joffre, General Pau, General Percin, General Michel, a "plan of the Maubeuge fortresses," "French troops marching through Paris," "Belgian scouts on the battlefield of Waterloo," a "map of France showing the territorial distributions of the French Army," the Palace of Justice in Brussels, King Albert I of Belgium, General Leman, "pentagonal Brialmont Fort," "triangular Brialmont Fort," and "modern defences of Antwerp.".
