Edward Ardizzone,born in Haiphong in 1900,was brought to England in 1905.In 1926,after working as a clerk,he became a professional artist,exhibiting his watercolours and lithographs,and embarking on a lifetime of book illustration and the teaching of graphic design.He was appointed an official war artist in 1940 and was elected to the Royal Academy in 1970.He died in 1979.
