Text in Latin. Greek words also appear intermittently in the address. Original publisher's beige pamphlet printed on beige paper in black ink. One folio-sized leaf folded in half and printed on all sides. No date, circa 1774 ("P. P. Dominica Oculi MDCCLXXIV" printed at the bottom of the fourth page). Unpaginated, four pages, presumed complete. Paper is fragile. Pamphlet is clean and intact overall but has light age toning, bands of darkening limited to the edges (from possible tape residue), a few small chips and closed tears (largest tear measures about 1 1/2" from bottom edge on front and is limited to the margins), and slight foxing. A Very Good copy. A speech, in Latin, given by Carl Gottlieb Strauss (1743-1790), a German Protestant clergyman and teacher. In this address, Strauss discusses the philosophy of ancient cultures such as that of ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. The emphasis appears to be on ancient Greece and there are a few references to the famous Greek philosopher, Pythagoras. Publishing or printing information printed on front: "Gedani, Typis Thom. Joh. Schreiberi, Senatus et Athen. Typographi." Thomas Johannes Schreiber (1699-1778) was a German publisher or printer.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: No Binding
