Two volumes, complete. Very early edition, with no mention of how many "thousand" copies were published. Dated 1852, the same year as the 1st edition, but with "Press of Geo. C. Rand, Wood Cut and Book Printer, Cornhill, Boston." printed on the copyright page. Original publisher's brown cloth binding with a stamped gilt illustration on the front cover and gilt lettering on the spine. There is a blind stamped illustration, the same as on the front, on the back cover. 5 1/4" x 7 3/4." Volume I: 312 pages, complete. Volume II: 322 pages, complete. Former owner's inscription in pencil on the front free endpaper of Volume I: "Pauline Cornell, From Grandmother." Pages and covers are clean and intact overall. Spine of the covers of both volumes have chipping. Both volumes have a chip measuring about 2" x 1" in the upper-right corner of the front free endpaper. Covers have corner and edge wear. Very Good copies. The iconic novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896). Uncle Tom's Cabin advocated for the abolition of slavery and helped promote anti-slavery views within the American public. Although it was almost unanimously denounced by slave owners in the South, the novel galvanized civil rights activists and the anti-slavery movement at large in the North. Uncle Tom's Cabin is noted by some historians for being a key factor in the onset of the Civil War.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover
