Original small broadside printed on white paper. 8 1/2" x 11." One page, complete. One black and white reprinted portrait photograph of Richard Nixon, complete. Paper is very clean and intact but slightly wrinkled. At the bottom is a trademark label by LPIU Lithographers & Photoengravers International, Honolulu. This broadside announces a meet-and-greet with President Richard Nixon at the Hickam Air Force Base in Hawai'i (off Nimitz Highway, now Hawai'i 92). The occasion of Nixon's visit to the Hickam Air Force Base was to have talks with Premier Kakuei Tanaka from Japan and improve diplomatic relations with both Japan and China. From 1949-1969, the United States had made an alliance with other countries, including Japan, to "contain" China which they viewed as a "Communist threat." However, both Nixon and Tanaka sought to improve relations with China after the country's two decades of isolation. Nixon's diplomacy with China is considered by many historians to be a significant hallmark of his administration. Nixon was also the first U.S. president to visit China while in office.. Poster.
