An exhibit portfolio produced by the New York State Council on the Arts for the New York Museums Collaborative. Original Exhibit Portfolio of 50 stunning and rarely seen images of Jews and other immigrants of the Lower East Side. Includes an introductory statement from Allon Schoener, the New York art critic, writer, and curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts 1969 exhibition Harlem on My Mind. He writes, "The Lower East Side recalls a wonderfully rich and fruitful period of American history in which millions of Jews came to the United States through a small portal and spread across the entire country making their contributions to the total fabric of American life. For American Jews, the Lower East Side is a powerful symbol their heritage. " SUBJECT (S) : Immigrants -- New York (State) -- New York -- Pictorial works. Case is torn and broken, still holding the loose-leaf images but only in fair condition. The photographs themselves have some edgewear and are toning slightly but overall are in about very good condition. (ART-26-38)
