"His law cases included the reorganization in 1912 of the United States Motor Company into the Maxwell Motor Company, now the Chrysler Corporation Most of his paintings were representational but some were semi - abstract. The colors showed the influence of Van Gogh and the impressionists, whom he admired In 1924 he formed and headed an organization that moved 300, 000 Soviet Jews from the ghetto to the rich soil in the Crimea, and he also assisted 80, 000 non-Jewish peasants. For this effort, (Herbert) Hoover congratulated him on one of the outstanding pieces of human engineering in the world today. In 1947, Mr. Rosenberg headed a United States committee that worked for passage of a Genocide Convention, which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly the following year. " (NYTimes, 1970) This exhibition catalog, which was held at Central Synagogue on East 62nd Street from May 15th to May 29th, 1962 was held in honor of the congregations late Rabbi, Jonah Bondi Wise, who passed away in 1959. "Rabbi Wise (1881 1959) was an American Rabbi and leader of the Reform Judaism movement, who served for over thirty years as rabbi of the Central Synagogue in Manhattan and was a founder of the United Jewish Appeal, serving as its chairman from its creation in 1939 until 1958." (Wikipedia, 2017) The two men were "dear friends. " Includes a blurb from David J. Seligson, and text throughout from W. G. Constable, the prominent 20th century curator and art historian who was a distant relative of John Constable. OCLC lists 9 copies worldwide. Wrappers show some wear.
