Pollack, Ben : Portrait Postcard with Short Note

(5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch) addressed to Hugh Randolph of Newark, NJ from Ben Pollack. The front is a photo of Ben Pollack and his wife, the singer Doris Robbins. The back, dated 27 January 1933. is a handwritten note: "Dear Hugh. See you soon again in N.Y. Best wishes, Ben". Ben Pollack (1903-1971) was a drummer and band leader during the twenties through the forties. He helped discover or employ Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, Glen Miller, Jimmy McPartland and Harry James. He was sometimes known as "Father of Swing". Very successful during the 20s recording records and touring, but like all things the Depression slowed down business and in the 30s and 40s he struggled. Doris Robbins became his wife. In 1971 after career problems he committed suicide by hanging in Palm Springs.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
