Original Publicity Photograph, "Olga (O.L.) Knipper-Chekhova

Circa 1904. Original black and white publicity photograph. 3 1/4 X 5 1/4 inches. Olga (O.L.) Knipper-Chekhova (1868-1959) was a Russian Empire and Soviet stage actress. In 1901 she married Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) who was a Russian dramatist and short story writer. In 1904 Olga played the part of Madame Raneuskaya in Chechov's "The Cherry Orchard". She would continue to play this part throughout her long career. In this publicity photograph, which has captions printed in French below the photograph, identifies Ms. Knipper and references her appearance as Ranevskaya ("Ranievskaia" on the photograph) in "The Cherry Orchard" ("Le Jardin des Cerises") as presented by the Moscow Art Theater. In this photograph Olga (approx 32 years of age) is sitting wearing a ruffled dress with a brooch. Two small holes are on the bottom of the photograph, (image and text is not affected). Several very small spots on photograph. Overall, photograph is clean.. Book. Book Condition: Fine. Binding: No Binding
