VG+.Although no original dw/dj present,it appears the original,previous owner (a child,Frank Pryor - Form 11a), from childish,handwritten ink name to amateurish-made brown paper protective dw/dj,remains in situ and has therefore protected the bds and book beneath,all these years! No owner's name - original or prior or subsequent - internally. Publisher's original,pale blue/green(?) cloth bd with dark blue/black ink stamped fleur-de-lys cornered,paralleled lined, linear borders to upper bd,publisher's colophon to rear bd and lettering to upper bd and slightly faded spine/backstrip. Corners minimally bumped,negligible shelf-wear to edges;head+foot of spine/ backstrip minisculely bumped with reciprocal creasing with slightly,off-set foxed front+rear feps.Top+fore-edges aged/toned - as usual/normal - but generally clean; contents bright,tight and clean apart from light page-edge toning. O'Connor,the text is from the J.M. Barrie play,performed annually at the Duke of York's Theatre,London. All children,except one,grow up. [First lines.] A dramatic fantasy for children about a boy,Peter Pan,who ran away to Never-Never Land to escape growing up.Whilst searching for his shadow,Peter meets the Darling children whom he teaches to fly.He takes them to Never-Never Land where they meet the lost boys and encounter many adventures before deciding to return home and face growing up. Alice Bolingbroke Woodward (1862-1911). Born in London,daughter of Dr Henry Woodward,Keeper of Geology at the British Museum.As a child she drew in the Greek and Roman galleries of the museum and made diagrams and scientific drawings for her father.Studied at the South Kensington and Westminster Schools of Art and in Paris at the Academie Julian.Watercolour painter and an accomplished illustrator of children's books in pen and ink,or pencil and wash,with a graceful,economical line, who often brought a refreshing sense of humour to her work.Some of her earlier drawings are in the manner of Charles Robinson.
