A Very Good copy. A promotional booklet about Tasmanian history with an emphasis on the Western discovery and colonization of the country. The main text begins at Pages 22 with advertisements preceding it. A few ads are interspersed among the main text. The history of Tasmania is divided into brief sections; several are about a paragraph in length. However, much of Tasmania's history is covered chronologically and begins with pre-colonial Tasmania thousands of years ago and then proceeds with the history of global travel by ship and travel in the vicinity of Australia and Tasmania. The text then describes the first authenticated Western discovery of Tasmania in the seventeenth century and subsequent European colonization. Some of the conflicts between Aboriginal Tasmanians and colonists are described. The noted Aboriginal Tasmanian leader, Truganini, and the time she worked with George Augustus Robinson are also discussed. The text describes the plight of Truganini and Aboriginal Tasmanians as a whole amid European colonization. There are also many descriptions of historical milestones including the founding of early European towns such as Hobart, the arrival of the first ship of immigrants, and the establishment of various industries. Printed on front cover: "Issued under the Auspices of the 'Come to Tasmania' Organisation, By Leslie Norman, Sec." A brief section in back describes the "Come to Tasmania" Organisation and how the idea for the group came from its present secretary, Leslie Norman. This section explains how the Organisation's main purpose is to promote tourism to Tasmania. The following are some of the businesses, products, services, and points of interest advertised herein: "Hobart," "Kodak," "Westella," "'Mercury' Sparkling Cider," "Heathorn's Hotel," "The Launceton," "Hadley's Hotel," "Hotel Australasian," and "Cascade Ales and Beer.".
