Original billhead printed and handwritten in black ink on light beige paper. Black-and-white illustration of the business printed at top. Datelined June 21, 1900 in Sacramento, California. 8 1/2" x 4 1/2." Billhead is very clean and intact except for two vertical fold lines, age toning, and a paper stub tipped in on back right edge. A Near Fine copy. An original billhead from Neubourg & Company, also known as Star Mills and Malt House, to "F. Kunsting; Franklin" [Franklin refers to the buyer's address in Franklin, California]. Kunsting purchased one item, which may have been a flour material, for $2.38. Part of the printed text reads, "Bought of Neubourg & Co., Manufacturers of Malt and Meals. And Dealers in Hops, Corks, General Brewers' Supplies, Produce, Etc.; 1016, 1018 and 1020 Fifth St., bet. J and K." Neubourg & Company, also known as Star Mills and Malt House and Neubourg & Lages Company, was a milling and malting company in Sacramento. It was founded in 1866 by Leonard Neubourg and Christopher Lages. The business was located on the west side of Fifth Street between J and K Streets. Billhead is very clean and intact except for slight age toning, a bit of darkening along left edge on front, a dampstain in lower-right on front barely affecting text, a vertical fold line at center, and a paper stub tipped in on back right edge. Kunsting purchased two line items, which were two different types of corks. The printed header reads, "Bought of Neubourg & Co., Manufacturers of Malt and Meals.
