Nakasa, Nathaniel (Ed) : the Classic - Johannesburg Quarterly Volume One - Number 3

The Classic Trust Fund, 1964

77 pages (complete). 'The Classic' was one of the most important literary magazines to have come out of South Africa. It was started by the legendary, and hero of the struggle, Nathaniel Nakasa. This edition was published not long before he was forced into exile, where he died. The magazine was intended to encourage African writing from all parts of the continent and from all races. This edition is dedicated to 'Writing from Mozambique'. There are pieces here from some of the most celebrated African writers that appeared in print for the first time. Authors include: Luis Bernardo Honwana, Ezekiel Mphahlele, Lionel Abrahams, Jose Creaverinha, Noemia de Sousa, Frank Barton, Peter du Preez, Rui Knopfli, Peter Radlof. The cover is scruffy but secure. The edges are thumbed and marked. The pages are firm, benign, diligent, creative, comfortable and content. A must for any collector of African fiction written during the 1960s. fk. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Soft cover. Jacket: No Jacket
