Third London Edition. Original publisher's red cloth binding with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. 6" x 8 1/2." 569 pages, complete. Seventeen plates in black-and-white and color, including tipped-in color plates illustrated by R. A. Stewart. Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning throughout and foxing on front and back endpapers. Covers are clean and intact overall but have rubbing and fading along spine, rubbing on front and back, and splitting along front inner hinge (binding is a bit loose but still holding). A Good copy. Susanna Moodie (1803-1885) was an English-Canadian author who wrote about her experiences in Canada when it was a British colony. In Roughing It in the Bush; or, Forest Life in Canada, Moodie writes about her time as a settler on the family farm in Bellevue, Ontario. Moodie's editor had suggested to her that she write an autobiographical book to help prospective British immigrants learn about Canadian life. Moodie chose to be relatively frank, including both the positives and negatives, about life in Canada. This book was among her most successful literary works.. Illustr.: Stewart, R. A.. Book.
