The diary in good state, in the original pale brown cloth, sl. waterstained and faded, the contents clean and tight, the entries clear and very legible. John Atkins MARK, born 5th June 1825, and died 18th February 1881was for 22 years, H.B.M. Vice Consul at Malaga, his father William Mark having been the British Consul. Mark was also the agent for the Duke of Wellington, administering his estates in Spain. Most of the entries are of a financial nature, or relate to travels in Spain, and to London. There are at least two references to the Duke of Wellington.
