A full color folding map, 21 1/4 by 27 1/4 inches, that folds into a contemporary brown cloth case, 5 3/4 by 3 3/4 inches, with the title ("Map of the United States") within a decorative cartouche gilt-stamped on upper board. A beautifully colored map of the United States and its territories and Mexico, with an inset map of Central America and a table of distances. Several closed tears have been carefully mended on the reverse. Clean and bright, its condition is very good plus. Bound with a VIEW OF WASHINGTON CITY and a MILITARY MAP OF MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA that are printed together on a single sheet, 10 1/2 by 8 1/4 inches, that folds into the case. The view of Washington, D.C., 4 5/8 by 7 3/8 inches, is a slightly elevated view that shows the east side of the Capitol building and beyond, looking toward the Washington Monument (a projection based upon the design after Robert Mills that was never completely realized).
