Gutersloh airfield is the only former Laftwaffe Station now in Royal Air Force hands (then 1987). Its story begins in the heady days of the Third Reich, encompasses the triumphs and tragedies of WW2,and reflects the experience of post-war Allied occupation. After brief occupancy by the Americans it passed to the British. The post-war members of the RAF brought their own special qualities to the Station and gradually former enemies became first Allies and then friends. 'Flugplatz Gutersloh' attempts to reflect the human experience of an operational Station against a background of 50 years of European history. After concentration upon the post-war period the story is brought right up to date with the story of the modern airfield's special contribution to the NATO defensive alliance. Whatever the nationality or generation of those at Gutersloh, the same characteristics of courage, application and humour come to the force. This book attempts to go beyond a catalogue of operations and aircraft and touch upon the bedrock of humanity which is the foundation of all Service units - particularly those concerned with military flying. Since April,2013,the UK Post Office has increased it's Pricing in Proportion template, altering its weight allowances, dimensions and lowered its compensation rates too!
