Original black and white portrait photograph of ballet dancer Yura Lazovsky (or Yurek Lazowski) shown in his role as a soldier in an overlaid composition where he simultaneously looks up at something and lies on the ground with his eyes closed and rifle in hand. 10" x 8." On the back are two stamps: "S. Hurok presents the Ballet Theatre, Yura Lazovsky, 'Russian Soldier'" and "Thanks for credit, Maurice Seymour Photographer, Chicago, Illinois." Photograph is very clean and intact. Yura Lazovsky (1917-1980) was a Polish-born ballet dancer and teacher. He became an American citizen in 1944. Lazovsky danced a number of times with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo (1935-1941; 1944-1946) and also with the (American) Ballet Theatre.
