Howell, Catalog 50, item 137: " Kotzebue's second Pacific voyage, made eight years after the first, combined scientific exploration and discovery with conveying cargo to Kamchatka. The voyage was also intended to protect the Russian American Company from the fur poaching of foreign traders. Kotzebue spent the winter of 1824 in California and Hawaii; he provides an extensive account of Ft. Ross as well as a description of the San Francisco area. He also visited Brazil, Chile, the Society Islands, Pitcairn, Micronesia and Alaska. " This German edition is a much expanded version of the first edition, which was published in Russia in 1828.
