8vo; original blind stamped green cloth with gilt titles; pp. 172; scattered foxing; pencilled notation on rear pastedown. Fair condition. (SABIB 2 p. 717) Sir Henry Hubert Juta, "lawyer, judge and parliamentarian, was a son of Jan Carel Juta, who came from Holland to the Cape and became a well-known bookseller and publisher in the Cape. Juta's mother was Louise Marx, a sister of Karl Marx, the founder of communisim. . . . He describes events from his life as a lawyer in his interesting Reminiscences of the western court (sic) (Cape Town, 1912) and, to prove his versatility, he also published a detective novel in the Sherlock Holmes manner: Off the track (London, 1895), by 'Jacques Aanrooy'." - DSAB I pp. 418-9.
