First Edition. The first portion of what eventually became the Complete Psalms of David, or so-called Victoria Psalter, regarded as Jones' greatest work. Very good indeed in the original heavy embossed deep plum cloth gilt, presumably by Leighton Brothers, lower corners rubbed and worn, the margins of the blank versos of the preliminary leaves with a light water stain which does not extend through to the pictorial surface. Extremely scarce in this separate state, this constitutes the earliest published form of this masterpiece of Victorian chromolithography.
