Collection of two original typed letters addressed to Chairman John H. Bartle of the Victory Loan Committee in Monrovia, California. Each letter is signed in ink by (or on behalf of) a chairman from a Southern California liberty bond committee. November 6, 1918 and May 16, 1919. 8 1/2" x 11." Two pages (one page each). Each letter is virtually pristine and intact except for some age toning, fold lines (likely original), and a few small wrinkles. Each letter is Near Fine. John H. (or J.?) Bartle (1855?-1932?) was Chairman of the Victory Loan Committee in Monrovia, California. Bartle is congratulated for his work by other chairmen in these two letters. In the 1918 letter, Chairman [Henry?] J. [Walker?], Chairman from the Southern California Liberty Loan State Central Committee, congratulates Bartle for his work during the Fourth Liberty Loan Campaign. This letter is on "Los Angeles County Liberty Loan Committee" stationery. In the 1919 letter, J. B. Carlston (signed, "J. B. Carlston by R. C. Bartow ..."), Chairman of the Los Angeles County Victory Loan Committee and Vice Chairman of the Southern California State Central Victory Loan Committee, also congratulates Bartle for his work as Chairman of the Monrovia Victory Loan Committee. This letter is on "Southern California State Central Victory Loan Committee" stationery. Victory loans, also known as liberty bonds or liberty loans, were war bonds sold in the United States as part of a fundraising effort to support the Allies during World War I. In the 1918 letter, Bartle's middle initial may be mistakenly typed as "J." instead of "H.". Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Near Fine (Near Fine). Binding: No Binding
