With a colour frontispiece and seventy-four photographs and reproductions over thirty-four plates. Errata slip to p.10, as required. Boards marked, rubbed and a little soiled, spine ends and corner tips rubbed and with a short tear to the base of the rear gutter and a small area of the backstrip lifting as a result. A good copy, really very crisp internally. No dust wrapper, probably as issued. Lady Daresbury's copy, with her handsome bookplate to the front pastedown, her signature to the colophon and a signed typewritten letter to her from the author pasted to the front free endpaper. The first monograph on O'Neale, the leading British miniature- and porcelain-painter, and the principle fable, mythology and classical painter for the Chelsea factory during the red anchor period (1751-8)..
