16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. On offer is a super, original manuscript World War II Macon Georgia home-front diary handwritten by a charming, 'girl-next-door', young American girl. Sixteen years old at the start in 1941 Janet Hagan [b. February 1, 1924] details with no little bit of personality the life of a young girl developing into a young woman with the backdrop of the War for the five years from 1941 to 1946 [1941 and 1942 are almost fully written, the balance much less so. Her writings provide a multi level insight into the times from the mundane day to day activities to simple blissful statements like "I love Billy more than anything in the world" to the enigmatic and intriguing shorthand secrets she shares with her diary, this diary stands out for charm. The diary proper is red and on the front it shows a feather pen in an inkwell and an hourglass. It has the original key for the lock. She and Billy are married in 1942, she also has a baby in 1942. Historians and researchers of the era and the area will find a treasure of family details, fully named friends and contacts for a fair bit of genealogical information and a nice record of home-front activities and movies and lifestyle of the youth of the era. It measures 5 1/2" tall by 4 1/4" across and it has wear on the spine other than that it is in VG.. Book Condition: Very Good
