An original publicity photograph (8 1/8 x 10 inch) black & white photo with Istomin seated next to a piano. Inscribed in the upper right corner "Eugene Istomin, Woodland Nov. 30, 1959" in ink. Eugene George Istomin (1925-2003) was an American pianist. He was a member of the Istomin-Stern-Rose Trio which recorded many Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert works. They won a Grammy Award in 1971 for their Beethoven work 'The Complete Piano Trios'. His earliest performances were from the age 6 and he entered the Curtis Institute studying under Rudolf Serkin and M. Horszowski. In 1943 he won the Leventritt Award and also the Philadelphia Youth Award. Istomin first debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra playing a concerto by Chopin. Besides playing with many of the national orchestras he recorded extensively for Columbia in solo works and chamber music. In 1975 he married Marta Montanez Martinez, the widow of Pablo Casals. In the 1980s and 1990s he gave recital tours in the United States. Very good photograph of this famous pianist.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
