From Cape Rouge, the British troops debarked and mounted the plateau to the west of Quebec City, known as the Plains of Abraham. This is where they were met by the French troops, and after roughly half an hour of fighting, the British seized the fortress of Quebec and marked a symbolic victory for British presence in North America. It was during this same battle that the commanders of both sides, James Wolfe and Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, were both mortally wounded.
