HENNINGSEN, Charles Frederick : Analogies and Contrasts, or, Comparative Sketchjes of France and England

T.C. Newby, London, 1848

2 vols. Very good copies indeed in mid-20th Century 1/2 chocolate brown morocco, raised bands, gilt fleurons in each compartment, matching brown cloth boards. Athenaeum stamps on titles, else a clean tight attractive example of this scarce work. Charles Frederick Henningsen (1815—June 14, 1877) was an Anglo-American writer, mercenary, filibuster, and munitions expert. He participated in civil wars and independence movements in Spain, Nicaragua, Hungary, and the United States. His parents were Swedish but he was born in England. Henningsen's specialty was artillery, but also wrote about the improvement of small arms, and superintended the development of the first Minié rifles in the United States
