Original letter handwritten and signed in black ink on beige paper by Charles Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March. Signed, "March." August 20, 1914. 9" x 5 1/4." One page. Letter is very clean and intact except for age toning, a few small wrinkles, and fold lines (likely original). A Fine copy. A letter handwritten and signed by Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox to Charles Elkin Matthews (1851-1921), a British publisher and bookseller. Charles Henry Gordon Lennox (1870-1935) was a British peer and politician who served as Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army during World War I. Gordon-Lennox held several titles of peerage including 8th Duke of Gordon, 8th Duke of Lennox, 3rd Duke of Gordon, Lord Settrington (1870-1903), and Earl of March (1903-1928). Gordon-Lennox was the author of a book titled, The Old Charlton Hunt, which was published by Matthews in 1910. In this letter, Gordon-Lennox asks Matthews for a copy of said book. He also writes, "I am here with my regiment waiting for the Germans, and if they don't land here I hope we may go and meet them on the other side of the water!". Manuscript.
