Limited Editions Club, **, 1943

very good condition, slipcase has wear, soil signed & Illustrated by Paul Landacre, #21 of 1,000. Previous owners bookplate on front inside.; signed & Illustrated by Paul Landacre, #21 of 1,000. Previous owners bookplate on front inside.; LIB2958006145; 9"x11"; 299 pages; The Limited Editions Club was started and operated by George Macy from 1929to 1971 and produced one book a month, usually limited to 1500 numbered copies. The books were printed by the finest printing cmpanies in various countries, in unusually fine bindings and papers, with beautifully decorated slipcases, illustrated by a well-known illustrator, sometimes hand-colored, sometimes with original etchings, and usually signed by the illustrator. They are some of the most beautiful books published in recent times and have become highly collectible. The club has continued since 1971under various owners and today produces small numbers of ultra-expensive books. Note: This volume is #21. This low number is important as the plates have better definition at the beginning of a printing run and lose much by the time the later numbered copies are printed.
