Fripp, Constance E and Hillier, V W (Eds) : Gold and the Gospel in Mashonaland 1888 : being the journals of 1. The Mashonaland Mission of Bishop Knight-Bruce 2. The Concession Journey of Charles Dunell Rudd

Chatto & Windus, London, 1949

246 pages (complete). A contented copy. Knight-Bruce was translated from Bloemfontein to Mashonaland as its first bishop. Rudd persuaded Lobengula that he (who was the main business partner of Rhodes) should have the mineral rights to Matabeleland and Mashonaland. These two accounts are therefore fresh and vivid with detail. The badge of the Rhodesias on the front cover is gilded (bright). The covers are scuffed and worn from shelving. The spine is sunned. Within, the contents are mild, creamy, clear, smart, clean and confident. The folded maps are tidy and neat and unworn. fk. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket

First Edition.
