He danced with a number of ballet companies including the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo (1938-52). During his stay with Ballet Russe, he created the role of Champion Roper in the Aaron Copeland ballet "Rodeo.' (1942). This photograph of Franklin shows him dressed in costume for that role..
