Original publisher's brown leather binding. 4" x 6 3/4." 447 pages, complete. Beautiful multicolored marbled endpapers in red, blue, yellow, and white. Gilt lettering and decorations and raised bands on spine. Chipping on spine, front endpapers, and first few pages of the book. Ownership label on front endpaper: "Maxine Lister Judd." Inscription by former owner dated to summer 1949 in Paris: "Paris -- l'ete 1949. Pres de l'ecole des Beaux Arts et de Seine. Ama plus chere amis. B--." Most of the text block is intact with very little wear. A little chipping on the covers. Slight dampstaining and rippling on pages, mostly in the back. The front endpaper and the first few pages in the front and back have some tearing. Francois VI, Duke of Rochefoucauld (1613-1680) was a French nobleman and writer who was known for his maxims and memoirs. His world view of human nature was purportedly fair and objective. Francois VI also bore the title, Prince de Marcillac, until 1650.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
