Very slight tear on lower-right corner of card. Card and signature are very clean and intact overall. David Dudley Field II (1804-1895) was an American lawyer and politician. He is best-known for his codification project in which he wanted to reform and codify U.S. common law, particularly in the state of New York. Although Field's codification was only adopted in a small part of the state, other states and US territories such as California, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, and Guam were more ready to accept his civil codes.
