EMMA PHIPPS AND MARTIN PHIPPS : 1880 SUPER ORIGINAL ARCHIVE OF TRAVEL DIARY AND LETTERS HOME DESCRIBING THE NEW WORLD OF COLORADO SPRINGS TO THE FAMILY BACK HOME IN MASSACHUSETTS

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. On offer is a super archive of six [6] original manuscript multi page letters dated Colorado Springs May through June 1880 and one [1] circa 1880 travel diary all handwritten by Emma Phipps save for two [2] letters by her brother Martin Phipps written during and after the latter leg of their westward trek from Framingham, Massachusetts to Colorado Springs. Addressed to their sister Ella and a couple to the mother we learn of their trials and travails reaching Colorado, the many encounters they have we also learn among other things that Martin is afflicted with some type of disease in the hopes that the Colorado climate would suit him better. They are traveling with Corrina Shattuck, one day to be known for her missionary work during the Armenian Genocide, along with seasoned Colorado guides, Emma does a superb job in the travel diary of describing the prairies and the plains leading up to and then in Colorado to Colorado Springs, crossing rivers, life in the rough and the myriad of encounters they have on the trip. While the diary is unsigned by Emma the handwriting in her autograph letters makes for a clear match. The 26 page journal is 6 x 9 inches, nicely written and easily read, bound only by a paper clip. Overall G+.. English Language. Book Condition: Good+
