original blue binding is shelf rubbed and worn. gold gilt on edges. binding has been repaired and is tight. light foxing throughout. page 317 has "violent" instead of violet, as called for in the first issue. condition given as "very good" is in terms of the book's age. included with the book is a poor copy of Doyle's author's edition of "the white company". this book has suffered water damage and the boards are worn and damaged.it is only a reading copy. it was published in 1903 and is a limited edition (#509 of 1000) SIGNED by Doyle in full. the books are sold as a set as this is an opportunity to obtain a verified, numbered signature. this page could then be removed and included in the sherlock holmes title.. Tall Octavo. First issue, with "Miss Violent" uncorrected on p. 317 and no name on the street sign on front panel. 317pp. bound in light blue pictorial cloth over bevelled boards lettered in gilt, green floral endpapers, all edges gilt. A very handsome copy showing very minor wear at extremities, with some wear to gilt on spine, inner hinges are cracked but holding very well, text has light occasional foxing, more on the half-tile and final two leaves. In all, a very good copy.
