First Edition. BOUND FROM THE ORIGINAL PARTS. 8vo., pps. (xvi) + 609. Contemporary binding of full dark green morocco leather, gilt to spine, raised bands, gilt ruling to boards, all edges gilt. Elaborate inner dentelles. Small crack in leather at head of spine. Plates fresh and bright. Internally mercifully free from all but the most trivial foxing. With the 2 plates by Buss which Dickens soon caused to be removed from subsequent editions, plus the error on the engraved title-page of 'Veller' for Weller'. This copy also contains an additional suite of 32 plates by Onwyn, signed as Sam Weller. Early issue. A splendid and distinctive copy of Dickens' classic. Eckel p17. Smith p17. (xvi) + 609. One green paper cover from the parts bound in before half-title, additional illustrated title with 'Weller' sign (altered from 'Veller' in earliest issues). Original binding of half burgundy morocco over drab sides, marbled endpapers and edges. Some acceptable rubbing to joints and corners, plates browned as usual. A very good copy of Dickens' classic.
