From David Ramsay's "Histoire de la Revolution d'Amerique par rapport a la Caroline Meridionale," the 1787 first French edition of Ramsay's account of the war as an active participant. It was published in English in 1785 as "History of the Revolution of South-Carolina..." and engraved by Thomas Abernethie .Ramsay, a field commander and surgeon, was twice elected South Carolina's representative to the Continental Congress. The French version is engraved by French royal geographer Charles Picquet.
A rare and superbly detailed plan of Charleston under siege, with an extensive key (in French) detailing the precise forces and resources available to the combatants, right down to the number of troops manning various fortifications. Individual buildings are shown, as well as the array of nine British ships, each named, laying siege to the city. Charleston eventually capitulated on May 12, 1780 in one of the greatest American losses of the war.
