Original 8 X 10 inch photographic print encased in its own protective sheet and laid into the slipcase. Gray cloth slipcase with photographic reproduction pasted on one side. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition of the same name held at the Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago from March 9 through May 26, 2007. Presents Art Shay's "Chicago Accent". A representative and delectable sampling of Art Shay's huge body of work. Culled from an incredible output of over 25, 000 published photographs, many of which are now in the Permanent Collection of National Portrait Gallery of Art Washington, DC. The Catalog includes classic images that have previously appeared (notably the iconic Nelson Algren photographs) as well as images that appear for the first time in catalog form. It ends, heartbreakingly, with "Harmon In The Snow, 1955", a portrait of his son (and Nelson Algren's godson), who died in 1972 at the age of 21. "Art Shay's photography shakes you up, sets you down gently, pats you on the head, and then kicks you in the ass" (Roger Ebert). An absolute "must-have" title for Art Shay collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Slipcased Edition, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Limitation Page. It is very boldly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Art Shay. Although not called for, it is also very prominently and beautifully signed in blue ink-pen on his Contribution by David Mamet. Laid-in is a 10 X 8 inch original photographic print of "Nelson Algren Amuses A New Friend, 1949", which is very prominently and beautifully studio-stamped, numbered, and signed in black ink-pen on verso by Art Shay. The image appears on Page 4, the very first plate of the catalog. This title is now collectible. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the Limited Slipcased Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Art Shay made four original-print choices for the Limited Edition, this being one of his most iconic Nelson Algren images. A rare signed copy thus. 45 plates, 1 original print. One of the finest American photographers of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ART SHAY AND LEE BALTERMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
