Clean, bright and wide-margined internally. Sir Robert Walpole, 1st Earl of Orford (1676-1745) was an British Statesman, art collector and is regarded as Britian's firt Prime Minister. He was a Whig under George I & II and served as leading minister from 1721 to 1742 and ws supported by the King rather than Parliament. During this period he kept England out of war; secured the Hanoverian Dynasty; effectively countervailed Jacobitism; and was the first to use 10 Dowing Street as his residence. In his private life he assembled one of the finest private art collections in Europe which the 3rd Earl sold to Catherine the Great which served as a foundational part of the Hermatige.
