Original letter handwritten in black ink on beige paper, stationery of "J. P. Cobb's General Machine Shop, College City, Cal." Datelined September 7, 1885 in College City. 8" x 10." Two pages. Letter is virtually pristine and intact except for a few small smudges on back not affecting text. A Fine copy. John Perry Cobb (1855-1886) owned a machine shop in College City. Part of the header describes his business as follows: "Engines, Separators, and all Kinds of Machinery Repaired and Made to Order. Folding Header Beds and Elevator Supports." Cobb was also an inventor and held a number of U.S. patents. In this letter to Root Neilson & Co. (of Sacramento), Cobb writes of a change to some equipment his is making for them, "I have determined to drive the piston with a crank instead of the gear ...." He then elaborates on further changes to the equipment.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine. Binding: No Binding
