Signed by Author(s)A unique copy of this rare book. Claerhout has signed the book on the half-title page and hand-drawn a woman in black ink. Further, tipped in opposite "Catcher of the Sun", plate 29, the author has handwritten a poem thus: "Joy I will find, I'll catch the sun, I'll yawn at moonlight - the night will pass, I'll spit the vulture from my throat, Africa is more than blossoms and birds, Vultures and lions, Man needs the sun, warmth. I will be your sun, I no longer fear death. - F. Claerhout". The jacket is shelf-worn and there are a couple of small closed tears. Still presents well in cellophane. Complete. A decent copy. Linen covered boards. At some stage the book has been subjected to damp storage. The early and later pages have damp stains to the bottom spine corners. The illustrations are totally unaffected. The boards are tidy and convivial with some stains the bottom spine corners. Within, the frontispage has previous owner notations. The pages, aside from the above, are vibrant. Father Claerhout's paintings are vivid, bold. Their energy is palpable. The pages are tight, clear, generous. fk. Book Condition: Good.
