Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. On offer is a sensational, original 1928 scrapbook, photo album and log book compiled by Chief Petty Officer C.R. Fooks of the British destroyer HMS Amazon detailing a voyage made to South America. Fooks did a super job presenting life on this storied ship [we were delighted to read and enclosed multi page biography of all the ships that have had the name 'Amazon' in the Royal Navy]. Maps, pictures of the Commanding Officer of Amazon and the HMS Ambuscade, typed itinerary, photos of the ship, postcards, newspaper clippings, artwork, letters and entertainment programs all present an unparalleled picture of life aboard the Amazon. Dated April 10 through August 14, 1928 the scrapbook was created in a Naval Rangefinder Logbook and has 49 pages of material. A number of tucked in items include a later note in felt pen is included regarding Fooks' service record. Fooks served from childhood in 1908 through to recall in the Second World War and he appears to have served with distinction rising at one point to be the Bosun under Rear Admiral Stephenson. HISTORICAL NOTE: The HMS Amazon was a prototype Destroyer that later became the basis of the Tribal class Destroyers. She was fitted out in WW2 as a convoy escort with many munitions and participated in the sinking of German U-boat U-50 off the Norwegian coast.. Manuscript.
