Letter handwritten in black ink on 4 3/4" x 6 3/4" beige paper. Datelined June 13, 1867 at 14 East 33 and 12 (no town or city written). One page. Letter reads: "Dear Sir, Agreeably to your request, I send you my autograph, by inscribing myself, Yours Truly, E. H. Chapin." Letter is very clean and intact. Edwin Hubbell Chapin (1814-1880) was an American preacher, poet, and editor of the Christian Leader magazine. Chapin served as a pastor in Virginia, Massachusetts, and New York. He wrote several books on religion and was the author of the poem, "Burial at Sea" (or "Ocean Burial"), which was the inspiration for the famous folk song, "Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie.".
