CAZALET, Major V. A : With Sikorski To Russia. PRESENTATION COPY FROM AUTHOR

1942

Printed at The Curwen Press for Private Circulation. London. 1942. Limited to 300 copies only. PRESENTATION FROM THE AUTHOR, "To The Sleeping Princess - from Victor. 1942." Cazalet was killed the following year and, apart from being a Conservative MP, an advocate for creating a Jewish homeland and an important envoy over WW2, was the Godfather of Elizabeth Taylor and was instrumental in sending her and her family to America before the war and making the introductions that set her on the road to success as an actress. This copy is possibly one that was inscribed for Taylor as Cazalet, famously drove over 90 miles through the fog to sit with the very ill child at her request. He held her in his arms and talked to her until her fever broke and she fell asleep. He also gave her a horse, when she was four, which she used to ride throughout his property. Elizabeth called him Victor. Covers slightly sunned and stained with very slight ripples. Otherwise a clean and sound copy.
