Signature on white card by Will Carleton in gray ink. February 16, 1884. 3 5/8" x 2 1/8." Card reads: "Will Carleton. Feb. 16, 1884." Card and signature are very clean and intact. Will Carleton (1845-1912) was an American poet who often wrote on his rural life in Michigan. His best-known and most critically acclaimed poem is "Over the Hill to the Poor House" which caught national attention. The poem addresses the plight of the elderly with apathetic children..
